In August 2016 my family and I were trying to decide if we could take on a dog to join our family.
We tried serveral local rescue centres to see if we could foster a dog to give us an opportunity to test ourselves as we had never owned a dog before. The rescue centres turned us down as my children were only 3 & 5 years old. I happened to see SPDC pop up on Facebook so I contacted them.
Right from the off they were wonderful! They understood that with young children and as first time fosterers we would need a calmer dog. We waited for a while for them to find us a match and then in September 2016 we got sent details on a small breed called Pearl.
They described Pearl as a beautiful kind soul that craved love. We didn't need to think about it, we wanted her here to help find her a loving home. The fundraiser started and I managed to contribute half by auctioning my jewellery to get her on her flight.
In November 2016 I met with the dog courier after a very long journey and got handed a very frightened but loving bundle. I got Pearl home and showed her where she would be sleeping and her new toys. After 2 weeks this little beauty had a lot of interest to adopt her. We even had a home ready for her, but as that day got closer we all grew sadder and realised that there was only one home she should be in, and that was ours. We formally adopted Pearl in December 2016 and she has really made our family complete. She's the most loving soul and my children adore her, they will grow up with her and she will never be hungry or in need of love ever again.
I thank all the ladies of SPDC often as without them our family wouldn't be complete. We have since fostered for SPDC to help another dog on the journey to their forever home.
